Most developers I see or meet use Sublime Text editor in some form or another, and if you haven't already gotten a licence, I recommend that you get one now. However, I have often wished there was an opensource counterpart, and now my wish is in the making with Lime Text editor.
Unfortunately, it looks far from stable, and users have to build it themseleves, but when it does become stable, I will make sure to update this post with installation instructions for Linux users. For now, keep an eye out for it, or go help build it if you have the skills.
