Nexus 10 - Improve Sluggish Performance (especially PDF viewers)

I was getting tired of my 'shakey' scrolling in Adobe Reader and tried out many other forms of PDF viewer applications, none of which fixed the issue. It turns out that the 2d applications aren't necessarily rendered using the GPU, but you can force the device to do this, which makes a massive difference.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the left pane and tap 'About tablet'
  3. Tap the 'Build number' text many times, until it states 'You are now a developer'
  4. Click the 'Developer options' menu option that now shows above 'About tablet'
  5. In the 'Drawing' section, the third option from the bottom (second tickbox from bottom), there is an option 'Force GPU rendering'. Tap it to ensure that it is ticked.
  6. Done! - 2D applications are now much 'slicker'.
