Introduction
This post is more for my own reference than anything and will be continually revised.
1. Install the gnome-system monitor. Please note that this will install a much better system monitor than the one you will get if you install the 'monitor' found in the software center, and includes a file-system tab and more.
sudo apt-get install gnome-system-monitor.
2. Change the wallpaper.
3. Change the key layout so that super+e opens thunar instead of leafpad.
4. Add to the key layout super+q opens the terminal. Super+t already opens terminal but super+q is easier to reach.
5. Add super+f to the keyboard layout for opening firefox.
6. sudo apt-get install vlc
7. Install kazam screencaster. This is much better for recording your screen on xubuntu than using screen cast omatic website and the webm format works well with youtube.
